The elite of the Foundation military, the men and women of the Security and Defense force, or SecDef, are better trained, better armed and better equipped than the Contractors that make up the majority of Epirian human forces on frontier worlds. SecDef take only the most promising recruits, sending them to dedicated facilities on various Foundation worlds. Many hopefuls wash out during this grueling period of training and indoctrination, and only the best of the best graduate and go on to become members of SecDef's feared infantry squads.
